Batman’s Next Big Event Starts In August Fear State
“Fear State” cuts through the ongoing Catwoman and Harley Quinn comic book series with a pair of new titles as the redesigned Scarecrow’s machinations come to a head, as it sends Gotham City “straight to hell.”
“Fear State not only continues the Scarecrow’s vision of a fear-controlled Gotham, but also Mayor Christopher Nakano’s mission to protect the city with his revolutionary deal with the magistrate,” DC’s description reads. .
According to the publisher, in addition to launching several new series and storylines across the entire Batman family of titles, the event sets up “a new status quo for 2022!”
“Fear State” begins August 10 in 40-page I Am Batman # 0 by writer John Ridley and artist Travel Foreman. Presumably the launch of a new regular series, the title picks up on the events of The Next Batman: Second Son by the same creative team.
Interestingly, Second Son started out as a digital first series.
“Jace Fox begins the march to his destiny when he fights to protect Alleytown from the magistrate’s oppressive forces, using Batman armor and technology he found in Bruce Wayne’s former base of operations, the Hibernaculum! ” reads the description of DC.
I Am Batman # 0 will feature a main cover of Foreman and two variant covers of Dave Wilkins and Derrick Chew, respectively.
“Fear State” then continues in Catwoman # 34 on August 17th by Ram V and Fernando Blanco.
Alleytown continues to be Gotham City’s hotspot, with Selina Kyle’s quest to keep her home safe beset from all sides, not only by law enforcement gone wrong, but also by a potential invasion. by the bad guys in town, ”DC’s description reads. “And if those issues weren’t enough, Batman makes the scene, breaking his and Selina’s vow to take another one-year hiatus.”
The main cover of Catwoman # 34 is by Yanick Paquette (DC previously mistakenly credited by Matteo Scalera) and features a cover variant of Jenny Frison.
Part Three is Harley Quinn # 6 from August 24 by Stephanie Phillips and Laura Braga.
“What would a crisis threatening all of Gotham City be without Harley Quinn?” DC asks rhetorically. “Boring, what is it! The Mistress of Evil and Chaos is teaming up with Catwoman to kick Magistrate out of Alleytown for good!”
Harley Quinn # 6 main cover is by Riley Rossmo and includes a cover variant of Derrick Chew.
And finally, the 40-page Batman of August 31: Fear State Alpha # 1 by James Tynion IV and Riccardo Federici closes the first month of the event.
“The event that has been brewing for over a year begins … Fear State is moving to Gotham City, and no one is safe!” read the description of DC. “Overwhelmed by the twin threats of the Scarecrow and Peacekeeper-01, Batman and his allies have fallen behind since the events of Infinite Frontier # 0 … and with the arrival of a mysterious anti-Oracle and the Poison Ivy returns … Batman may have more than he can handle! “
The main cover of Batman: Fear State Alpha # 1 is by Ben Oliver and includes three variations of covers by Dylan Teague, Jorge Jimenez and Francesco Mattina.
Fear State will then expand to the main Batman title starting in September with numbers 112 through 117.
DC provided an overview of the covers of Jorge Molina’s Batman ‘Fear State’ variants, which connect to form a linked picture of the “allies and enemies the Dark Knight will meet throughout this must-see event!”
Fear State will bid to one day be counted among the best Batman stories of all time.
