This article is about the Netflix movie 13: The Musical and contains information about the premise, release date, cast, trailer and soundtrack.

Netflix’s August slate is heating up, and with plenty more movies to be announced, maybe you’ll like this Broadway-based, beloved teen musical drama? Here’s everything we know about the Netflix movie 13: The Musical.

13: The Musical premise

Courtesy of Netflix – Following his parents’ divorce, 12-year-old Evan Goldman (Eli Golden) leaves New York with his mother Jessica (Debra Messing). With his Bar Mitzvah fast approaching, Evan is devastated to have to leave behind all his friends, his father (Peter Hermann) and his rabbi (Josh Peck). But upon arriving at his grandmother’s (Rhea Perlman) home in the small town of Walkerton, Indiana, he hatches a plan to make new friends by turning her Bar Mitzvah into the coolest party ever. As an outsider navigating the complicated social circles of his new school, Evan quickly discovers he’s not the only one struggling with the all-too-familiar anxieties of eighth grade. As her new friends Patrice (Gabriella Uhl) and Archie (Jonathan Lengel) worry about the fate of the planet and unrequited love respectively, popular cheerleader Lucy (Frankie McNellis) desperately plots to avoid a first kiss between her crush Brett (JD McCrary) and her best friend Kendra (Lindsey Blackwell). To make matters worse, Evan invites the popular kids to his party, who aren’t fans of Patrice. With these competing interests at stake, Evan is faced with the impossible task of bringing everyone together happily in time for his party, or else risk social ruin. Suddenly, being 13 doesn’t look as good as you think. Directed by Tamra Davis and based on the hugely popular musical 13, which debuted on Broadway in 2008, 13: MUSIC is a coming-of-age journey through the unforgettable highs and lows of preteen life.

Our opinion on the principle:

This will be your typical teen drama, with plenty of music to swoon the audience. The key to this series will be the soundtrack. Will it be good enough? Or will it be a generic entry in the Netflix movie list? We’ll find out in August, but considering it’s based on the Broadway show, it could be promising.

Is there a trailer?

Our opinion on the trailer:

I mean, there are no surprises here with the trailer. But let’s hope for the fans that it lives up to the musical that everyone has loved for years. The movie certainly isn’t going to set the world on fire, but that’s not what matters here. That’s if it will appeal to fans hoping it’s a good take on the musical.
