Interactive exhibit hopes to bring Ray of Sunshine amid dark days
“ This (is) a great way to bring the museum to homes and communities across Simcoe County, ” says Simcoe County museum official
Simcoe County Museum is launching a fun and interactive community exhibit to bring a little sunshine to county families.
The new exhibit brings the museum’s new character called Little Ray… of Sunshine to the community, offering businesses, schools, community leaders and residents to exhibit the new family character in public places.
“We thought about how much this pandemic has affected us at the museum and how we could bring smiles to faces across the county – this is where Little Ray was born,” said Kelley Swift Jones, curator of the Simcoe County Museum .
“We missed the opportunity to share our exhibits with visitors and thought it was a great way to bring the museum into the homes and communities of Simcoe County.
Little Ray of Sunshine window props are distributed to a number of local businesses and partner organizations, as well as libraries, county offices, and long-term care homes for display in windows.
Residents are encouraged to take a photo whenever they see “Little Ray” and upload it to social media using the hashtag #LittleRay and / or #WhereIsLittleRayToday.
They can also download a kit, available at museum.simcoe.ca and / or create their own Little Ray and upload a photo to social media. Weekly draws will be held using social media hashtags for prizes across the county.
Community members are encouraged to download a Little Ray of Sunshine kit from museum.simcoe.ca, which also hosts activity sheets, bookmarks, and more on Little Ray.
A virtual exhibit showcasing Little Ray’s adventures in the county will be shared and promoted throughout the month. This will be highlighted for all to see on the museum’s website and on social media.
