Joker 2 Rumored to Be a Musical Starring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn

Someone there had Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn on their bingo board, and I’m vicariously excited for them. Fresh off the rumors of his promotion to a critical role in DC movies, the director recently released an Instagram post announcing that he had finished writing the screenplay for a Joker after.

Almost immediately after its release, there was a lingering buzz about Joker– which was originally intended to be a one-and-don – earning a sequel. Once the movie topped $1 billion at the box office with a budget of $70 million, a sequel was all but guaranteed. Many fans, including myself, have wondered where a sequel Joker the film could and would go. Apparently a musical was the answer we were looking for. My God, someone’s bingo table must be on fire.

It’s true, friends, the Oscar nominee Lady Gaga is rumored to be bringing a little song and dance to Arkham in joker 2.

Lady Gaga is in early talks to play opposite Joaquin Phoenix in director Todd Phillips’ sequel to Jokerthe success of Warner Bros. in 2019, which made $1 billion and won an Oscar, based on the DC villain.

Phillips wrote the screenplay with Joker co-writer Scott Silver for a while and finally showed it to the studio. Last week, Phillips revealed on social media the title of the new project — Joker: Madness for two referring to a medical term for the same or similar mental disorder that affects two or more people, usually members of the same family. And while the same social media post showed Phoenix reading the script, the actor’s involvement isn’t exactly a done deal yet – sources say The Hollywood Reporter that Warners has yet to reach a deal with the actor, with both parties deeply involved.

Details about his character are being kept under wraps, but Joker is known for his abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum mental institution who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime. It’s unclear if Phillips and company are using other DC characters or going it alone, as they did in many cases with the first movie.

If a deal is reached, Gaga would play Quinn. However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC Universe than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, which most recently appeared in 2021. The Suicide Squad as well as several other films.

Although I have reservations, the idea makes sense. The previous film constantly featured Arthur Fleck losing his sweet persona to become the Joker through dance. Showing Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel falling under the spell of the Joker through elaborate dance numbers in a mental institution might be the perfect juxtaposition of humor and guts the movie needs.
