Listen to the first single from Neil Gaiman’s new musical project

Music and lyrics were written by Neil Gaiman and performed by the FourPlay String Quartetan Australian band that Gaiman first collaborated with in 2010 for the soundtrack to his short story The truth is a cave in the Black Mountains. Here’s what Gaiman had to say about this new project:

I don’t know exactly when I fell in love with a string quartet. I remember our first date, though. It was a day spent in a small room somewhere in the backstage maze of the Sydney Opera House. We played the next night on the Sydney Opera House stage. It was remarkable. It was so much fun we did it again. We toured together, but when we got to Carnegie Hall, we decided we needed something better than me to read a poem as an encore, so we stole time from the sound check and rehearsed a song. And then we performed our song on the stage at Carnegie Hall, and it sounded a lot like something special. We started building a repertoire, and when I was in Australia we were making music together. Here are some of the things we’ve done together. It’s been a long fallow winter, the last two and a half years. Here are signs of life.

Neil Gaiman and the FourPlay String Quartet will release their first full album, Signs of lifein April 2023.
