Miss Oregon 2022, Sophia Takla, joins BRIDGETOWN JR. Musical Theater Training

Sophia Takla, recently crowned Miss Oregon 2022, will co-direct the Triple Threat Training Class for ages 7-11 at the Bridgetown Conservatory of Musical Theater this fall. Bridgetown Jr. prepares the young musical theater prospect with dance, acting and vocal performances in a weekly 2-hour class. Sophia will join Max Powell, a local Portland actor/singer, in instructing young performers.

Sophia Takla, a student at the Boston Conservatory of Berklee College of Music, is a former student of the Bridgetown Conservatory. The Boston Conservatory arranged an internship at the Bridgetown Conservatory, allowing Ms. Takla to continue her duties as Miss Oregon and remain in the Boston Conservatory program while teaching in Bridgetown.

The Bridgetown Conservatory of Musical Theater is moving to the Tiffany Center in downtown Portland for its triple threat training for middle and high school students. The Fall 2022 term will be the first term for the conservatory’s new 3,500 square foot Tiffany Center space, located at 711 SW 14th Avenue in downtown Portland.

Rick Lewis, Artistic Director of Bridgetown Conservatory, said, “We are delighted to have Sophia Takla join us as an instructor for this year in Bridgetown! It’s always exciting to see former Bridgetown students succeed, and it’s even more exciting to have a former student, like Sophia, join us as a guest instructor! Sophia and her co-instructor, Max Powell, have some exciting ideas for Bridgetown Jr’s new class. We can’t wait to start the fall term!”

The Bridgetown Conservatory of Musical Theater is proud to be the premier training ground for young performers for a professional career in musical theatre. Bridgetown offers “triple threat” training (performance, dance and vocal performance) for young professionals ages 12-19, preparing for college entry into high-level musical theater programs and professional careers in the musical theatre. Bridgetown Conservatory’s Triple Threat Musical Theater program is taught by former Broadway and New York professionals, offering experienced and thoughtful insight into the training of young performers.

Over the past few years, graduates of Bridgetown Conservatory High School have secured places in such prestigious musical theater programs as: The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (London), The Royal Conservatory of Scotland, Manhattan School of Music, Marymount Manhattan, NYU/Steinhard, NYU/Tisch, Boston Conservatory, Chapman University, Pace University, SCU Dramatic Arts, AMDA, Molloy College/CAP21 among others.

Each 8-week term in Bridgetown focuses on a different aspect of the musical theater style or genre. Bridgetown Jr. classes are for children ages 7-11. Classes take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., from September 10 to October 29, 2022.

In addition to Bridgetown Jr., the Bridgetown Conservatory offers professional triple threat training for teens (12-19) and adults (20+).
