‘Seussical the Musical’ on stage at Grant

It’s hard to imagine all of the amazing characters from Dr. Seuss’ children’s storybook together, but what better place to try than Fox Lake?

Grant Community High School’s spring musical is “Seussical the Musical,” which will hit the stage three times this weekend.

“Seussical the Musical” features many of the beloved characters from the Dr. Seuss stories. That Cat in the Hat tells the journey of Jojo, a child who has too many “thoughts”, and Horton the elephant, who tries to save all the inhabitants of Whoville who are trapped on a speck of dust on a cloverleaf.

The sets, all designed and produced by Grant’s costume and scenography students, take us on a wild ride from Jojo’s bathtub to the jungle of Nool, then from the McGurkus circus to the small world of Whoville.

During the bathtub scene, real bubbles will fall from the ceiling. The traditional orchestra pit is moved to the back of the stage and the infectious music is performed by student musicians and actors.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children and seniors. Ticket sales begin 30 minutes before curtain time in the auditorium box office. The school is located at 285 Grand Ave. at Fox Lake.
