Here’s your chance to see a musical adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Alice Walker, which has been made into an Oscar-nominated film. Few stories are more powerful and hopeful than “The Color Purple,” and the characters of Celie, Nettie, Shug and Sofia come to life in a whole new way. The Maine State Music Theater version features a Grammy-winning score brimming with jazz, ragtime, gospel, blues and African music.

Now nearly 50 years old, ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ still delights audiences as it’s a hilarious and wacky adventure into a castle that’s home to one of the most bizarre characters you’ll ever see. encountered, including Dr. Frank “N” Furter, Riff Raff, Magenta, and Rocky. Stranded motorists Brad and Janet get caught up in all sorts of shenanigans that play out in musical numbers like “Sweet Transvestite,” “Over At The Frankenstein Place,” and “Time Warp.” Best of all, audience participation is legendary, and prop bags will be on sale in the lobby for the Friday and Saturday shows. Costumes encouraged!

Book lovers, get ready to shop till you drop at the Dyer Library Book Sale in Saco. It runs until the end of August during library opening hours, but for the best selection visit on Saturdays. You can expect to find massive amounts of hardcovers, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, children’s and young adult books, coffee table books, antiquarian books, art books and reference works. But that’s not all. You’ll also be able to browse stacks of video tapes, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks, all at an affordable price. In addition to Saturday hours, the library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.

A new series of immersive multimedia drag shows hosted by Gem Fatale kicks off Saturday in Portland.
